Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) workers' joint action committee (JAC) has demanded Rangers DG Major General Bilal Akbar to investigate the firing incident during the workers' anti-privatisation protest on February 2 this year.
As many as two protesters were killed and eight injured when security personnel clashed with marchers protesting against government plans to privatise PIA, though authorities denied opening fire.
In a letter written by JAC chairperson Captain Sohail Baloch to the Rangers DG, he asked the latter to launch an inquiry into the matter.
Since the employees feel uncertainty as they continue to receive show-cause notices, we have requested the Rangers DG to investigate the matter, said JAC spokesperson Nasrullah Khan Afridi while talking to The Express Tribune.
Earlier, Rangers DG had assured the joint action committee that the incident will be investigated, but due to lack of the progress on the inquiry the employees have asked him to intervene so the investigation completes swiftly.
