ISLAMABAD:

More than 221 government houses have been allotted to Islamabad Police officials by ‘relaxing rules’.

According to sources, Islamabad Police officials were not entitled to government accommodations in the federal capital under the Estate Office policy. A official of the Estate Office also confirmed allotment of government accommodations to police officials through relaxation of rules.

He, however, clarified that only officers of the Islamabad Police were entitled to official accommodation.

The official said that the number of government employees placed on the general waiting list for allotment of official residences has surged to over 20,000. He said that the employees would get government accommodations on the basis of merit as well as seniority.

He said that the number of federal government employees entitled for official accommodation was around 100,000 while the Estate Office could provide housing facility to less than one-fourth of them.
