Watching Over: New body formed to monitor seminaries

Committee, formed with the approval of Sindh chief minister, will be responsible for registering religious seminaries

KARACHI: The Auqaf, religious affairs, zakat and ushr department of the Sindh government constituted a committee on Thursday to coordinate the activities of the Wafaqul Madaris Board. The committee, formed with the approval of Sindh chief minister, will be responsible for registering religious seminaries, conducting an audit of their sources of income, curriculum, students’ uniforms and code of conduct for the Friday sermon. Senator Abdul Qayyum Soomro, CM’s special assistant on religious affairs and Auqaf, will head the committee, said a statement issued on Thursday. Rangers Sindh additional director-general, Sindh Police Special Branch DIG, home department’s additional chief secretary and 11 other representatives of seminaries will be the remaining members.
