Ironically, Cranston claims he “was not raised” with the notion that his profession (acting) could give him much recognition, reports Femalefirst. “I was not raised with the idea that you could achieve that,” he said on a special show Journey to the Oscars. The actor went on to reminisce about how his father Joseph Louis ‘Joe’ Cranston struggled to make a living as an actor throughout his own childhood days. “My dad was an actor and he made his living getting a job here, another there. Sometimes, he did fairly well. Other times, not so much,” revealed Cranston. “I think that his ego was inflated to the point where he felt that was what was important,” he added.

Cranston also recalled how his own acting career began auspiciously. During his first stage performance at an elementary school play, the future Breaking Bad star was humiliated when he mixed up his lines. And if it were not for the show’s creator Vince Gilligan, Cranston might never have solidified himself as an actor. “Gilligan was my champion because the network and studio were like, ‘Well, wait a minute – you’re talking about Walter White being played by this silly dad from Malcolm in the Middle?’” shared Cranston. “Gilligan, to his great credit and my benefit said, ‘He’s an actor. This is what he does, you know. He can do this,’” To sum it up, Cranston said, “Walter White is the reason I was able to become Dalton Trumbo.”
