LAHORE: A writ petition was filed in Lahore High Court on Tuesday against the provincial government’s failure to enforce its laws for prevention of child labour. Petitioner Subay Khan submitted through his counsel, Advocate Sheraz Zaka, that the government had turned a blind eye to the issue. He said the practice of employing children was rampant in the construction sector. He said the government’s contractors for the construction of several development projects in the city hired child workers.

He requested the court to direct the government to enforce provisions of the Employment of Children Act of 1991 and the Punjab Destitute and Neglected Children Act of 2004.
