ISLAMABAD: Naila Jabeen has successfully defended her doctoral dissertation at the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) and is awarded with a PhD in economics.

Her topic of thesis was “Impact of trade liberalisation on environmental quality”.

The main focus of her study was to analyse whether freer trade policy is compatible with environmental quality standards and its impact on climate change.

Her analysis includes the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Regarding her passion for her work, she said that ongoing climate change compelled her to explore the impact of trade policies on environmental quality.

Trade liberalisation is a disruptive social and economic process that invariably creates winners and losers, Jabeen said.

Jabeen started her professional career from the FIA.

Presently, she is working as assistant chief at the Planning Commission.
