PESHAWAR/TANK: A police constable was shot and injured by unidentified men in Paharipura on Saturday night.

A police official told The Express Tribune on Sunday, Irfanullah is a constable of Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) and was posted as a guard at the office of the Ehtesab Commission.

He was on his way home on Saturday night when unidentified culprits opened fire on him near Motorway Bridge. Irfanullah was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital and is in stable condition. Police registered an FIR and started investigation.

Tank

Separately, two people, including a police constable, were shot and injured by unidentified men in Dabra, Tank on Sunday.

A police official told The Express Tribune the incident took place after unidentified men tried to attack a primary school in the area.

“Sajjad Hussain, a police constable, opened fire on them,” he said. “Hussain and Hikmatyar, a passer-by, were injured in an exchange of fire.” The accused managed to flee. The injured were rushed to the hospital. An FIR was registered.

Rewind

On February 10, a police sub-inspector was killed while a constable critically injured as armed men opened fire at their vehicle in Mardan.

Earlier, on January 23, two cops of Khyber-Pakhtunwa (K-P) Police’s Elite Force Unit were shot dead by unidentified motorcyclists in Rashid Garhi within the jurisdiction of Yakatoot police station. Elite Force constable Shahzeb and his colleague, Special Police Officer (SPO) Ihsanullah, were traveling on a motorcycle to work when three unidentified armed men opened fire at them.

On January 9, a police rider squad was attacked in Garhi Qamardin and one of the personnel was killed and another was critically wounded. After the attack, police stations were directed to abandon all patrols involving rider squads as they could become easy targets.
