CCP imposed a fine of Rs20 million on a company that had copied the brand of another company

ISLAMABAD: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has set an example in the country by imposing a fine of Rs20 million on a company that had copied the brand of another company. This decision will go a long way in improving international trade practices in the country. The international market and investors keenly observe such fundamental issues that provide support and sustainable growth of their businesses and promote a culture of respecting copyrights in the country.

The company that was fined in the abovementioned case had copied the product packaging and labelling of another company in violation of the Competition Act of 2010. This fine was imposed after a complaint was filed by the aggrieved company. Such hearings and verdicts are positive developments from the angle of investment and rule of law, which have otherwise been in abysmal condition. The CCP played its role diligently and by doing so it protected the complainant and the brand identity and goodwill that the company had built over the years. Well done, CCP.
