LAHORE: A division bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday stayed the acquisition of a portion of the Anjuman Himayat-i-Islam School for the construction of the Orange Line Metro Train on Multan Road.

In its petition, the school management had stated that the authorities had changed the original route of the track and now wanted to acquire the land. “The school has a long history. It will be destroyed if the government is not restrained from acquiring the land,” the counsel said.

The bench, headed by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, restrained the government from acquiring the land and sought replies from the authorities concerned.

The bench also issued notices on another petition against the possible pollution caused by the metro train project.
