ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah has offered support to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, asking him to share his worries if there is a threat to democracy.

“We are democratic people and the prime minister should tell us what worries him so that there won't be any danger to democracy,” Shah said while talking to media in his chamber in the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Referring to a recent statement made by the prime minister, the opposition leader claimed, "He [PM Nawaz] complained of having less control over the state's affairs compared to 1991."

“I agree with the prime minister but he should have made these comments in the parliament,” he added.

Moreover, the PPP leader criticised the premier for his 'continuous' absence from the National Assembly, saying the parliament was being bypassed and denied from the information regarding important decisions. "The deal for import of LNG from Qatar is one such example."

Commenting on the prime minister's Tuesday statement about NAB’s overstepping the government, Shah expressed reservations over the reaction from the ruling party when the top corruption watchdog was going to take action against “the corruption in Punjab”.

“All parties had raised concerns over the NAB’s action in Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa but it was overlooked. However, they said NAB is overstepping when it was set to launch action in Punjab,” Shah added.
