Ghani to the defence: Ex-Ehtesab DG’s claims rejected

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information and Higher Education Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani on Tuesday rejected graft allegations against Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, terming them slanderous and devoid of proof.

Ghani issued this statement while speaking to office-bearers of the Abbottabad Union of Journalists at his office on Tuesday.

Responding to allegations levelled by former K-P Ehtesab Commission DG Lieutenant General (retd) Hamid Khan, Ghani said the former head of the commission steered clear of filing a reference against the CM when he was in office. He said this serves as welcome proof that his remarks were triggered by a personal vendetta.

“He was not subordinate to the CM and was answerable to the Ehtesab Commission alone,” he said. “He should have moved forward if there was anything solid against Khattak.”

The minister said Hamid’s attempt to “spill the beans” exposed his loyalties. Ghani said the former DG only created trouble for others and failed to meet expectations.

About amendments to the K-P Ehtesab Commission Act 2014, the minister said “doing or undoing legislation” was the sole prerogative of the assembly. He added steps taken by the house had been unprecedented.
