New art form: Haiku workshop begins at NUML

The workshop will conclude on February 18

ISLAMABAD:


The Embassy of Japan in collaboration with the Pakistan Haiku Society and National University of Modern Languages (NUML) organised a three-day ‘Haiku education workshop’.


Held at the premises of NUML, Islamabad, the event aimed to teach the art of Haiku poetry writing in Urdu to students of the twin cities. Prominent Pakistani Haiku poets Ali Yasir and Ali Muhammad Farshi will conduct the haiku training workshop.


More than 50 students from various colleges and universities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are set to participate at the workshop.


Toshikazu Isomura, counsellor and head of public affairs at the Embassy of Japan, inaugurated the workshop, and appreciated the students for showing their interest in learning the skills of writing Urdu Haiku poetry.


The Japanese embassy has been holding the workshops for the last few years, in collaboration with the Pakistan Haiku Society (PHS).


Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry that dates back to the 17th century. Haiku is the most precise, compact and condensed poetry originating in Japan. The workshop will conclude on February 18.
