Indian photographer brings Quidditch match to life

An Indian NGO employee and photographer Anshu Agarwal just made many Harry Potter fans' dreams come true by capturing children playing a game of Quidditch -- with the magic of Photoshop, of course.

A highly popular sport in the 'wizarding' world of Harry Potter, Quidditch is played over a field, in the air, with the players flying on broomsticks.

The goal of the game is to score more points than the other team via goals and ultimately catching the Golden Snitch by one team.

Agarwal, 25, who is a teacher in a village called Kalap in interior Garhwal, Uttarakhand, and is also a "diehard Potterhead", released a series of heartwarming photographs on his Facebook page Anshoots Photography, which show children playing Quidditch.

The idea for the photo project came from an exercise Agarwal had given to his students.

“As an exercise to teach the children English I show them Harry Potter movies on Sundays. They are smitten by them too and once expressed how they wished to be witches and wizards themselves," he said.

"Since I was already into Levitation Photography, I thought of making an effort to materialise their fantasy.” The children were shot using a one-foot high wooden bench, replicas of the broomsticks as shown in the movies and a volleyball.



"To me, photography is a bridge between my perception of the world around me and what it actually is. When I’m behind my camer,a I feel a need to take control over the subject and the surroundings. Perhaps that explains why I am mostly keen in creating something larger-than-life."

The photographer says he intends to work on more Harry Potter themed photos using the Light Painting technique.
