LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench on Monday issued notices on the federal government’s petition seeking cancellation of a stay order on the construction for the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project within 200-feet of 11 heritage sites along the train route. Earlier, the attorney general told the court that the federal government was a necessary party to the project as it had facilitated provision of funds for the project from a foreign country. He said construction work had been suspended following the stay order. He said the delay in completion of project would escalate the cost of the project. Also, on Monday, Punjab government’s counsel Khwaja Haris withdrew his power of attorney to defend the project. At a previous hearing, the court had suspended the no objection certificates (NoCs) issued for the project and stopped the authorities concerned from carrying out construction work within 200-feet of 11 sites.
