AHMEDABAD:
In a rather strange turn of events, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s car was stoned by street miscreants while he was busy shooting for his next film Raees on Sunday. Fortunately, he was not in the car at the time and no injuries were sustained by anyone. According to police reports, a small crowd shouting “Jai Sri Ram” and “Shah Rukh, Hai Hai” pelted the car a short distance from where the shooting was taking place.

Meanwhile, a dozen activists from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) were detained by police as they burnt an effigy of Shah Rukh on Ashram Road, Ahmedabad. The VHP has also called for a boycott of the star in retaliation to his statement about intolerance in India.

The stoning happened just a week after a group of demonstrators staged a protest near the office of the Kutch district collector in Bhuj, demanding a ban on the actor’s entry into the Rann of Kutch.

The film Raees is based on the story of city-based underworld don from the 1980s, Abdul Lateef Sheik, who was killed during a shootout with the police. It is being directed by Rahul Dholakia and also stars Pakistani actor Mahira Khan as Shah Rukh’s onscreen wife. A few of the scenes have been shot at the historic Sarkhej Roza mosque and dargah campus in the city, with over 200 policemen guarding the sets. Raees is slated to hit the floors on July 3, 2016.
