Actor claims she never looks in the mirror before heading out

LONDON: Even in an image-conscious world such as ours, some celebrities appear to be very much at ease in their own skins. In fact, seeking individuality by opening up about one’s personal life, beliefs, trials and tribulations has become a hot trend amongst the rich and famous. From revealing intimate pictures over social media to speaking about their health concerns, today’s celebrities are more eager to stay ‘normal’ than ever before.

Actor Cate Blanchett is one such celebrity who is unafraid to let fans see the real her. In a recent interview with British magazine HELLO! Blanchett shared how she keeps from obsessing over her looks too much. “I have a great way of dealing with all that: I try to avoid looking in the mirror. At our house in Australia, the only mirror we had was in the bathroom,” she said, reported femalefirst.co.uk.

The 46-year-old went on to call her glamorous appearance a “wonderful illusion,” highlighting the amount of time and effort put into getting it together. “When you see me on the red carpet at award ceremonies, my look is the result of a whole team of people who have spent the entire day on hair, my makeup and my outfit,” said Blanchett. “It is all a wonderful illusion,” she added.

Blanchett – a multi award winner – also keeps off of social media, admitting that she has no interest in reading about herself on the internet. “Social networks can be very useful on some occasions but I like to compare it to graffiti. You might read one or two things that are interesting but most of the stuff out there isn’t very useful,” said the Cinderella star. “That’s why I stay away from Facebook and Twitter. I’m not interested in reading about myself on the internet either – it’s so boring! What really interest me are other people, events and things that matter in the world.”
