Hospitals out of meds: Jackals injure 10 in Lower Dir

TIMERGARA: At least 10 people were injured after being attacked by wild jackals in Lower Dir on Sunday. The wounded include nine children and a woman. One of the jackals was subsequently killed by locals. Village council chairperson Maulana Nabi Shah told The Express Tribune the injured were rushed to the hospital. “However, the facility lacked medicines,” he said. “Relatives of victims had no option but to visit private medical stores to purchase medicines and vaccinations. Most of these medicines were expensive. Some of them cost Rs25,000.” Shah added locals had stopped sending their children to school after attacks from wild jackals became common. He said the government and wildlife department had failed to take action to provide safety to locals.
