Lending a helping hand: Poor newlyweds have something to smile about

Trust offers to provide dowries for needy families.

PESHAWAR: Floods survivors wedding off their daughters need not worry about dowry any more.

Madina Welfare Trust (MWT), a charity organisation, will provide flood survivors in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab with dowry sets. Each set is valued between Rs40,000-45,000. Those interested in availing this facility can get applications forms from Waqar Shoes in Qissa Khawani Bazaar and Kali Bazaar, Peshawar. The forms will be available every day between 9am and 1pm. Those in Punjab can get in touch with the trust’s office in Rawalpindi.

Once an application is received, the trust will run a background check on the family before providing the dowry set.

The facility was announced by MWT Chairperson Jehanzeb Sabri during a press conference at Peshawar Press Club.

He said that the trust’s dowry committee had unanimously decided to provide financial assistance to flood-affected families for their weddings.

Madina Welfare Trust has been focusing on education and provision of dowry to needy families ever since its inception in 1984. So far, the trust has paid dowry for 3,625 girls.

Each dowry set includes

A copy of the Quran

Prayer mats

A double bed

A dressing table

Two chairs

Quilts

A fan

A sewing machine

An iron

A briefcase

Five suits

A flyswatter

Towels

Socks

Cutlery including a plastic dinner set

Drinking glasses

Kitchenware

A bucket and pail

A thermos

A water cooler
