Scores of members of the All Pakistan Technical & Non-Technical Ittehad Association (APTNIA) staged a rally on Wednesday to press their demand for increase of pay scale. The rally was led by APTNIA president Waris Gujjar and general secretary Muhammad Khalid. The protesters walked from Ayyub Research Institute on Jhang Road to District Council Chowk. Scores of technical and non-technical officials between grade 1 to 16 in different departments including Irrigation, WASA, FDA, Building Corporation, Municipal Corporation and the Ayyub Agriculture Research Institute participated in the rally. They said that pay scales of clerks had been upgraded in 2007 but other employees had been ignored at that time. The government upgraded pay scales for clerks in 2015 and, once again, other staff members were passed on. They said this was extremely unfair.
The protesters carried banners, placards and posters inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. They requested the chief minister to upgrade pay scales of technical and non-technical staff alongside the clerical staff. “We, too, are important cogs in the government machinery,” said a protester.
