Irregularities galore

Letter February 11, 2016
For PIA to recover losses and check revenue pilferage, all those appointed on political basis should be taken to task

SUKKUR: For the duration of the strike by PIA’s employee unions, which has now been called off, the airline’s acting chairman, fleet of directors and general manager were nowhere to be found. They made no attempts towards the resumption of flight operations nor did they make any effort to inform passengers stranded at various airports regarding the latest developments related to their flight schedules.

Political appointments have reduced PIA to a dumping ground for political cronies who would otherwise never qualify for a job in the airline on merit. PIA’s revenues have been declining and its costs escalating for a long time. At the same time, its debts keep rising too. For PIA to recover its losses and check revenue pilferage, all those appointed on political basis should be taken to task.
