Rapper DMX found unconscious in New York

Police found him at the Ramada Inn parking space and was escorted to hospital

American rapper Earl Simmons aka DMX or Dark Man X, aged 45, was found unconscious at a parking space in New York on Monday night.

"Police in Yonkers, New York, responded to a call of an unconscious man in a Ramada Inn parking lot," Lt Patrick McCormack of the Yonkers Police Department told CNN.

"Officers escorted DMX to Saint Joseph's Medical Center," he added.

While the police did not release DMX's name; his his lawyer, Murray Richman, confirmed the news.

"I did not know the reason for his hospitalisation, but he appears to be well enough to plan on performing at a concert in Pennsylvania on Saturday," said the lawyer.

Simmons hails from Yonkers, New York and became famous in the 90s with a string of albums of hit singles, including Ruff Ryders Anthem, Party Up (Up in Here), What's My Name?

He also appeared on songs with Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem and Ja Rule.

DMX's music career has been overshadowed by his legal troubles and mental health struggles.

Celebrities such as Questlove, Ja Rule and Swizz Beatz sent prayers for the speedy recovery as soon as the news broke.

In another report by the New York Daily News, Patrick was quoted as saying, “This was an excellent job by the officers and they definitely saved the life. They found him in a lifeless condition with no breathing. They were able to bring back some breathing.”

It is unclear whether his unconscious state was caused by an asthma attack or drug overdose, but the rapper is now recovering and should be back to normal in no time.
