Pakistan, Qatar sign $16bn LNG deal

According to the agreement, Qatar will provide Pakistan with a billion dollars’ worth of LNG annually

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Qatar signed on Wednesday an agreement of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Doha, as part of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif two-day official visit to the Arab country.

The agreement was signed by Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Chairman of Qatar Gas Board of Directors Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi at a ceremony in Diwan-e-Emiri in Doha.

Earlier, the prime minister met Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad.

Both the leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation in different fields including energy, trade, investment and defence.

Affordable LNG: PM to ink pact during Qatar visit tomorrow

According to a statement, the prime minister said Pakistan offered attractive incentives for foreign investment, adding the Qatar Investment Authority should explore the potential in different sectors, particularly power generation projects.

The emir of Qatar thanked the PM for a visit, saying his country was a second home for Pakistanis.

Guldar Ali Khan Wazir | 8 years ago | Reply A new beginning in Pak-Qatar ties will go a long way in enhancing bilateral cooperation in diverse fields. Signing of LNG project and boosting Qatar's defence capability are the two major events settled during the premier's visit to the Gulf state. It has also been reported that Pakistani PM has asked Emir of Qatar to increase volume of its work force and relax visa rules to provide an opportunity to the Pakistani nationals to play their due role in the construction, development and prosperity of Qatar.
