The process of privatisation of PIA has been completely mishandled, turning it into a controversial mess
LAHORE: It is a fact that in an open market system, a professional management following a proper corporate charter is a better option for commercial enterprises, as compared to government bureaucrats managing the business. Unfortunately, due to corruption, favouritism and a lack of transparency, the process of privatisation of PIA has been completely mishandled, turning it into a controversial mess.
After the unification of East and West Germany, hundreds of thousands of East German factories and companies were sold to private investors within two years — the German government prepared a booklet containing information on all the factories and companies, indicating reserved price for each. We, as a nation, do not even have the ability to imitate other states’ ways of governance. I urge the authorities concerned to improve their performance in this regard.
