Pakistani wrestler wins gold at South Asian Games

Pakistan has won a total of 13 medals till now, two gold medals, four silver medals and seven bronze medals

Wrestler Mohammad Inam clinched the second gold medal for Pakistan in the South Asian Games as he defeated India’s Gopal Yadav 3-1 in the 86kg event on Sunday.


Inam’s teammate, Abdul Wahali, however, was not so fortunate as he was thrashed 4-0 by his Indian counterpart Pradeep in the 61kg event.

Pakistan has won a total of 13 medals till now — two gold medals, four silver medals and seven bronze medals, while India are leading the Games with 28 gold medals and Sri Lanka lie second with eight.


Meanwhile in the wushu changquan women’s event, Nazia Parvez claimed bronze, while weightlifter Umar Rasool Lone also claimed bronze in the 77kg competition.

Swimmer Naveed Hussain claimed bronze in the 200m backstroke event as he clocked 2min 19.57sec, while Farhan Zaman and Nasir Iqbal ensured an all-Pakistan squash final as they overcame their Indian counterparts in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile in the women’s event, Maria Toorpakai Wazir defeated Sri Lanka’s Mihilya Methsarani 3- 1 in the semi-final to reach the final.
