Review sought: Larger bench requested
The bench referred the petitions to the CJ with a request for constituting a larger bench
LAHORE:
A division bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday requested the chief justice to constitute a larger bench to hear two identical petitions seeking the reopening of cases of Ghazi Ilmuddin Shaheed and Bhagat Singh. The bench, comprising Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, heard the case on Wednesday. Counsel for the petitioners said that a larger bench should hear the matter due to the complex questions likely to be raised during the hearing. The bench referred the petitions to the chief justice with a request for constituting a larger bench to further proceed with the matter. In both petitions, the petitioners want the court to set aside the sentences by exercising the principle of review and order the government to honour Ghazi Ilmuddin Shaheed and Singh with posthumous state awards.
