A district and sessions court on Wednesday granted four-day physical remand of a former army official to the police on charges of allegedly planning an attack on Parliament House in 2011.


Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Sohail Thaheem awarded remand of Lt Col (retd) Tassaduq Bashir to the Shahzad Town police after he was produced before the court.

Bashir, a retired army SSG, was produced before two different courts. He was arrested on suspicion of committing a murder when the police found he was also wanted in a weapons case registered with the Shahzad Town police in 2011.

On January 30, Nilore police arrested the suspect on charges of murdering Nazakat Hussain in Kajna village on December 18, 2010.

Judicial Magistrate Raja Farrukh Ali Khan sent the suspect to jail on judicial remand after he was produced before the court in the murder case. Earlier, the court had awarded two-day physical remand.

The police said Bashir and Hussain got into a scuffle after their vehicles collided, before Bashir and his accomplices attacked the latter and his two uncles, seriously injuring them. Hussain later died at a hospital.

During the course of the murder investigation, the police checked his name for criminal records at other police stations and found that he was wanted in connection with the recovery of two missiles, two hand grenades and a suicide jacket from his car on October 8, 2011.
