PESHAWAR:

Most jewellery stores are robbed at gunpoint during business hours, but the bandits who got away with a whopping 26 kilogrammes of gold orchestrated a heist similar to that of a summer blockbuster. The unidentified men first gained access to the shop at Saddar Road in the city by drilling a hole through the roof. The robbers then made sure they had disconnected all CCTV cameras to ensure no footage exists.

None of the three watchmen on duty ever caught wind of the fact that a store in the market had been looted. The stolen gold was worth a staggering Rs130 million.

“The burglary was discovered late in the morning when the owner opened his shop. He immediately informed the police about the incident,” said a police officer. “There are three chowkidars (watchmen) in the market, but they never suspected a thing during the entire process.”

West Cantt police lodged an FIR and started investigation into the baffling heist.
