ISLAMABAD:

In a refreshing move, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to the link funds given to the ruling party’s lawmakers for their constituencies to their performance.

The move was taken after a consultative meeting of senior leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday. Nawaz, who is the president of the PML-N, expressed his disappointment with the performance of the party and lawmakers in their respective constituencies and the ministries and departments assigned to them.

Senior party officials said that the premier was briefed by senior leaders that some of the party’s lawmakers had been engrossed in unnecessary issues instead of focussing on their constituencies or other assigned tasks.

Sources said a disappointed Nawaz directed MNA Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar and MNA Hamza Shahbaz to stop entertaining the party’s lawmakers and officials who had abysmal performance. The two were directed to lead public affairs units at the centre and in Punjab respectively.
