Power failures

Letter January 30, 2016
There is a need for the administration to make more effort to overcome the energy crisis

DADU: This is with reference to the massive power breakdown that occurred on January 29 across the city of Karachi. The frequent power breakdowns and outages in Karachi came to a head as helpless residents recently displayed their anger through futile protests. The problem in the rural areas of the country is even more serious, as rural people have poorer access to electricity, even during the hot and humid summer season.

These people run from pillar to post trying to bring the situation to the attention of the authorities concerned but the latter remain unconcerned and indifferent or unable to help in most cases. This means that most people are destined to their fate of living through frequent power outages.

There is a need for the administration to make more effort to overcome the energy crisis. The citizens’ demand in this instance is completely justified because, after all, they are not demanding needless luxuries, jaunts or junkets. All they are asking for is access to their basic needs, including water and power.
