SUKKUR: The prime minister supports Karachi operation verbally but is not willing to release funds for it, said Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah.

Shah was speaking to the media in Sukkur on Saturday evening. Expressing his satisfaction over the pace of the operation, he said that the law and order situation has improved in Karachi. Thousands of terrorists in the city have been arrested or killed, he claimed. “We have done a lot during our tenure to bring lasting peace in the city,” he said, adding that such work has not been done since the last 30 to 35 years.

No compromise on Karachi operation, PM tells Sindh CM

According to the survey reports of World Bank and Asian Development Bank, more than 55% of people were living under the poverty line during the tenure of Arbab Ghulam Rahim, said Shah.

“After coming into power, we provided jobs to the unemployed people to minimise poverty,” he said, adding that the jobs were given to the people under the vision of Mohtarma Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

Shah further claimed that his government was also performing better in education and health sectors. “We want to bring rural areas on a par with the urban areas and therefore we are serving the both without any discrimination,” he claimed.

It is quite unfortunate that nobody is ready to take responsibility in the country, said CM’s information adviser Maula Bux Chandio. “Instead of praising the good work, we have become habitual of pin-pointing the wrong doings alone,” he said. “There might be some weaknesses in the Sindh government but we will never ditch the people of Sindh.”

Pakistan Peoples Party is always criticised, which overshadows the work it has done for the people of Sindh, he claimed. “Our leaders including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto also sacrificed their lives for the sake of democracy.”

Developing Sukkur

Expressing his concerns over the poor civic conditions in Sukkur, the CM said that city’s condition has not changed despite of billions of rupees being released for development work.

Karachi operation moves into higher gear

“Sukkur is my city too because my elders are buried here including, my grandfather,” he claimed.
