PESHAWAR: A three-member committee formed to fix responsibility of the terrorist attack on the Bacha Khan University (BKU) has held vice-chancellor and security in-charge of the varsity responsible for the tragedy.

On January 20, at least 21 people, including a professor, were killed when terrorists stormed the university situated in Charsadda district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

In its report submitted to the government, the committee was of the opinion that the vice-chancellor failed to put in place a proper security mechanism despite an advisory of worst security situation issued by the police.

It also held responsible security in-charge of BKU Ashfaq Ahmad, saying he “completely mismanaged the security issue. His sole duty was security but he has had no training or expertise [in this regard]”.

The committee in its recommendation asked the government to take action against the aforementioned persons and remove them from service.

Sceptic | 8 years ago | Reply Security is a provincial subject and the lapse in the case of BKU was entirely of the KP home department. If PTI applies the ethical standards that Imran Khan subjects the federal and the Punjab governments to, Khattak must resign immediately. The Province is seeing repeat attacks on educational institutions, jails get broken, public places get attacked with impunity but the model police of KP and its government remain missing.
