Environment protection: 32 units sealed for recycling waste
Shah said 1,102 units had been raided during the drive
LAHORE:
The Environment Department has sealed 32 units for recycling hospital waste during a 10-day campaign aimed at curbing the use of waste material. “Most of these units were set up in small houses on Bund Road, Lahore,” Environment Protection Department Deputy Director Nasimur Rehman Shah said on Thursday. Shah said 1,102 units had been raided during the drive. He said the units that had been sealed would mostly recycle syringes. He said the department had formed two squads to stop the practice. “We also inspected hospitals that have been the source of the waste.” He said the team had found that a large number of hospitals were not disposing of the waste in line with the Hospital Waste Management Rules, 2014.
