The market researcher’s annual Top 100 City Destinations survey, using figures from 2014, names Hong Kong at the top position for the fifth year in succession.
These are the world’s best countries
Attracting an impressive 27.77 million international tourists in the space of a year, the Asian city outstripped London's popularity to the tune of 10 million people. London, despite its expensive reputation, pulled in 17.38 million, just ahead of Singapore at 17.09 million.
Saudi Arabian city, Makkah, also made it to the list at 23 as it was visited by 6.12 million international visitors.
Further, Indian cities experienced strong growth in arrivals in 2014, with the combined efforts of a longstanding promotion campaign (Incredible India) and a weak rupee aiding visits to the country as a whole.
"Delhi and Mumbai are the most popular destinations, with each seeing over 4.5 million visitors in 2014," the reports adds.
Euromonitor's list is compiled from data from 57 ‘core’ countries, using national statistics and info from airports, hotels and other tourism industry sources.
