Victim's father says the accused wanted to marry his daughter and raped her upon refusal

A case has been registered against a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and two other individuals for allegedly raping a woman in Faisalabad.

PTI human rights wing district chief Rana Mubashar Ali was charged for allegedly raping and then blackmailing an employee of a private bank after the victim's father Muhammad Afzal filed a complaint against the accused.

"The accused wanted to marry Afzal's daughter and raped her after the family rejected his proposal," SHO Jhang Bazar told The Express Tribune.

The PTI worker along with two other accomplices blackmailed the girl with objectionable pictures following which they raped her, the SHO added.


Police have registered a case under section 376 of PPC. "Investigation is underway and evidence is being collected to support the allegation levied by the victim's father," he said.

Meanwhile, the accused told The Express Tribune that "the allegations are baseless." Mubashar Ali further added that he had purchased a house from Afzal for a sum of Rs2 million, however Afzal refused to transfer the property to him or return the money.

"I moved an application on January 20, but the police did not register my case. I have been implicated in a false case," Ali claimed, while adding that he is a married man and so is the self-proclaimed victim.

Investigating Officer Pervaiz Iqbal stated, "The accused has not yet been arrested as investigation is underway and we are yet to confirm the rape allegations levied against the PTI worker."
