ISLAMABAD: Indian forces in occupied Kashmir are using torture as weapon to punish Kashmiri detainees, forcing them to become informers or join counter freedom fighter organisations, said World Report 2016 issued by the Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Wednesday.

It is also used to extort money and information from the victim’s family, the report said, adding the most common forms of torture include severe beatings and electric shock.

One of the most insidious forms of torture is the use of a heavy log or roller to apply excruciating pressure to a detainee’s legs, leading to kidney damage.

Kashmir shuts down to mark ‘black day’

Doctors in Indian held Kashmir have also documented hundreds of cases of torture-induced renal failure in Kashmir.

According to one doctor familiar with the problem, “People who come to see me with torture-inflicted injuries are often so afraid that they virtually beg me not to reveal the facts of their case to my colleagues… You wonder how many cases don’t come to the hospital at all.”

In Kashmir, missing men revive fears of ‘disappearances’

“We usually only get the most severe cases. The most frequent torture cases I see are soft-tissue injuries; the use of the roller, gun butts, sticks, and kicks with pointed boots,” he said.

Is this how you take a cover and try to defend yourself when there is international pressure to bring justice to Mumbai, Gurdaspur, Pathankot attacks and unable to bring the terrorist attacks in your schools by your own misguided masses ???Recommend

Looks like there is intense international pressure on the land of pure to take decisive actions on the increasing impurities from past and present…As there are no substantive actions to speak off hence only words Kashmir can be used as shelter when someone becomes defensive.Recommend

It is common knowledge in the reporters community around the world that India will not allow them to go there and investigate themselves what kind of atrocities Indian security forces are inflecting on the people of Kashmir. How long India will subjugate the people of Kashmir, there is no doubt that the people in Kashmir will opt to be free from India if given the chance even after 67 years. The fact is that Indian prime minister Nehru had promised in the United Nation to have free plebiscite in Kashmir and let the people of that State decide their fate but Indians denied them that free choice under one pretext or other. Indian are quick to blame others for terrorism but they themselves are involved in terrorizing the people of Kashmir. Indians know what will be the outcome if Kashmiris are allowed freely to decide their fate. So much for Indian Democracy, it is laughable. Shame on the Western Countries who look the other way while Kashmiris are subjected to torture and their women folks are raped by Indian security forces. More than 100,000 Kashmiris has been killed in the last 10 years and let us not forget how many Kashmiri women has been raped by Indian Army in Kashmir. Recommend
