LAHORE:

Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday sought replies from the federal government, including the Ministry of Defence, on a petition seeking recovery of a Punjab University (PU) teacher arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department for his alleged links with banned outfits.

Asma Ghalib had filed the petition for the recovery of her husband Ghalib Ata, an assistant professor at the PU Institute of Administrative Sciences.

Her lawyer Advocate Asad Manzoor Butt told the court that on December 7, 2015, personnel of a law enforcement agency had picked Ata from his Allama Iqbal Town residence.

He said Asma had come to know from media reports that her husband had been arrested for alleged ties with Daesh and some other banned outfits. However, he said, police and related authorities were not giving any detail to the petitioner about the arrest. Advocate Butt said that the professor had no association with any banned organisation.

He requested the court to order the authorities concerned to produce the teacher before the court. Justice Sardar Shamim has ordered the respondents to submit their replies by February 15.
