SARGODHA: An increase in citrus production and its export is important for the economy, said Punjab Agriculture Minister Dr Farrukh Javed. Addressing participants of a meeting held to review and address the problems faced by citrus growers, he said a package worth more than Rs11 billion was being considered to provide modern subsidised equipment to the kinnow growers. The meeting was informed that out of the country’s total production of about 3 million tons of citrus, Sargodha’s contribution was almost 50%. Citrus Research Institute Director Altafur Rehman said kinnow was cultivated over 238,000 acres in the district and all resources were being utilised for creating awareness of preventive measures as well as for the provision of modern equipment.
