QUETTA:

A protest against police turned violent after members of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) clashed with law enforcers at Sirki Road.

Armed men of an NGO attacked the Gawalmandi police station, fired aerial rounds and hurled stones at policemen guarding the police station, leaving two policemen injured on Saturday.

“At least 8 members of Insaniyat Bachao (Save Humanity) organisation have been arrested as they attempted to storm the police station and fired at forces guarding the house,” Hakeem Zaheer SHO Gawalmandi said.

“The organisation is notorious for mistreating drug addicts as we received several complaints against the owner of the organisation (Wali Achakzai) prior as well,” he added. Footage can be seen of policemen arresting protesters and beating them up at Gawalmandi Chowk that was forcibly closed by the protesters.
