KARACHI: There is no strategic plan for Pakistan Steel’s privatisation, nor is any retrenchment being carried out in the organisation, said acting Chief Executive Officer Pakistan Steel Imtiaz Ahmed Khan Lodhi.

Addressing a meeting of CBA Peoples Workers Unity, he spoke about Pakistan Steel’s utility and importance to the country because of which the government is not contemplating its privatisation or introducing any scheme for retrenchment of workers. He said that a delegation from Russia is visiting Pakistan Steel with the intention of further expanding the project and providing financial support in this regard.

Lodhi added that if this project was approved, it would provide more job opportunities and provide a boost to the national economy and that the management’s priority was to enhance productivity and ensure prompt repair and maintenance of the plant.

He said that Pakistan Steel is not thinking of downsizing, and the management has regularised the jobs of thousands of contract workers.
