CERN membership recognition of Pakistan’s achievements in science: Nawaz

Pakistan is the first non-European country to become associate membership of CERN

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said Pakistan’s associate membership of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) was the recognition of the country’s achievement in the field of science and technology.

“Our associate membership of CERN is recognition of the achievements of our scientists, engineers and technicians,” he said during a visit to CERN where he addressed Pakistani scientists and engineers, while lauding their achievements and efforts.



While taking pride at becoming an associate member of CERN, the premier said Pakistan was the first non-European country to achieve this milestone.

Underscoring that Pakistan and CERN had been collaborating since 1994, and had carried out a number of successful projects involving sophisticated technologies and precision engineering, he expressed hope that the associate membership of Pakistan has opened a new era of cooperation that will strengthen the long-term partnership between CERN and the Pakistani scientific community.



The statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office further said the membership would allow Pakistani scientists to become members of the CERN staff, participate in CERN’s training and career-development programmes and CERN Council as well as allow Pakistani industry to bid for CERN contracts, thus opening up opportunities for industrial collaboration in areas of advanced technology.
