Tanoli, an unhappy Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member, was elected alongside district nazim Sardar Sher Bahadur, another disgruntled PTI member, with the support of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. They defeated PTI nominees Ali Khan Jadoon and Sardar Waqar Nabi. Both Tanoli and Bahadur face disqualification and their case is under trial at the division bench of Peshawar High Court.
Talking at his office, Tanoli said the provincial government has failed to confer powers to the elected LG representatives in accordance with the spirit of Local Government Act 2013.
“PTI has constituted bylaws which made the district nazim subservient to the deputy commissioner and it hasdone so in bad taste,” he said.
Tanoli told The Express Tribune the district nazim was unable to even convene sessions without the consent of the DC.
He said the bureaucracy was “constantly throwing a spanner in the works of the district government, which was evident from a recent verbal order by the Abbottabad DC.” Tanoli said the Abbottabad DC had asked all district departments not to implement any orders of the district nazim without his approval. He said since LG representatives were elected with the support of the public, they would not fail their voters.
He said he was in contact with other nazims of the province and plan protests against the government. He would also move the high court for their rights enshrined in the LG
Act 2013, Tanoli added.
