Aisam crashes out of Australian Open

Jonathan and Aisam lost the first set 6-3 with three double faults and eight unforced errors

KARACHI: Pakistan's Aisamul Haq Qureshi crashed out of the Australian Open doubles event with British partner Jonathan Marray as they lost to Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares 2-0 in Melbourne on Thursday.

They were up against seventh seeds in the first round.

Jonathan and Aisam lost the first set 6-3 with three double faults and eight unforced errors, winning 23 total points compared to Murray and Soares' 28.

The players resisted in the second set falling off four aces, but failed to break their opponents and lost the set 6-4, with 29 points won to Murray and Soares' 36 in a match, which lasted for 78 minutes.

But Aisam still has a chance in the first grand slam of the year, as he will be competing in the mixed doubles event partnering with Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova.

The Pakistani star changed his partner this season, continuing with Marray, with whom he won the Hall of Fame title last year, and also trained in Singapore for two weeks before the start of the season.
