PTI, PML-Q and JI offices in Islamabad residential areas sealed

Move comes following Supreme Court's orders; CDA set to shut PPP office in G-6/4 and old Zardari house in F-8/3

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Tuesday sealed all political offices of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Awami Muslim League Pakistan (AMLP), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) situated in the residential areas of Islamabad.

The move comes following orders passed by the Supreme Court to take action against the use of buildings in residential areas to set up offices of political parties.



Following the top court’s orders, the CDA's enforcement team began a crackdown, sealing PTI's office situated in sector G-6/4 and APML's office in G-6/3 of the capital.

The CDA is set to seal offices of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in G-6/4 and old Zardari house in F-8/3 along with JI's office in G-6/2, CDA officials said. "PML-Q's office in F-8/3 will also be sealed as a notice had already been served to the owners, directing them to shift their office in the commercial areas."

According to sources, a PTI leader requested the CDA for more time to make arrangements to shift the office. However, declining the request, CDA officials shut the party office.

The authority had served notices to leaders of political parties, but they did not pay heed. Thus, following the court's directions, their offices were sealed, CDA officials added.



Earlier, the capital authority at the last hearing submitted a detailed report before the apex court, stating that 2,075 houses in the capital’s residential areas were being used for commercial purposes.

The list included 392 schools, 175 guest houses, 110 salons, 99 hospitals and clinics, 308 furniture stores, 172 restaurants and hotels, 790 government and private offices and 16 foreign missions. Majority of the violations were in G and F sectors, the report stated.
