The police department said officers responded to a report of an assault at the intersection of Watson Avenue and Pugsley Avenue in Parkchester at 5:30 pm.

When they arrived they found a 43-year-old man dressed in a shalwar kameez who had bruises on his head and face. The man said he had been walking near Junior High School 125 Henry Hudson with a 9-year-old girl when he was attacked.
A law enforcement official said the girl was believed to be his niece. She was unharmed.
The police said two men attacked him while shouting “ISIS! ISIS!” and punched him multiple times in the head. He fell during the assault and the police said the suspects kicked him while he was on the ground.
Reforms to protect New York Muslims from surveillance
Emergency medical workers transported the man to Jacobi Medical Center where he was treated and released on Saturday night.
The incident is being investigated by the Hate Crimes Task Force, the police said.
