Ineffective policing: Foreign currency worth Rs3.2 million looted

Marks the largest heist recorded in the city

TAXILA: In the biggest ever robbery incident in the history of city, a three member gang made away with foreign currency worth Rs3.2 million.

The robbers attacked a cash van owned by a private money changer and escaped with various foreign currencies.  The trio intercepted the van, owned by Mohammad Mudasir, on GT road and took its three occupants hostage.

The suspects are said to have looted cash including 75,000 Saudi Riyals, 1,000 Omani Riyals, 5,000 Qatari Riyals, and 1,000 Euros.

Different civic and social circles have expressed their concern over the state of affairs. They have called upon the Rawalpindi’s RPO and CPO to take stock of the situation and take appropriate action against the concerned police officials.
