MULTAN: Agility International has started managing a cold cargo centre at Allama Iqbal International Airport and will make efforts to increase exports of farm produce.

The Punjab Agriculture Marketing Company handed over the cargo centre to Agility in an attempt to boost exports.

An agreement to this effect was struck more than a year back and the company has now started managing the facility at the airport.

The agreement will remain in place for three years.

This will directly increase exports, even multiply them, claim farmers and entrepreneurs.  The provincial government had set up the Punjab Agriculture Marketing Company with the aim of promoting exports of agri products because around 80 per cent of the country’s farm output comes from Punjab.

The cold cargo centre has been set up for storage of vegetables, meat, milk and fruits.

The facility will prevent these products from rotting in storage, saving millions of rupees.

In future, such units will also be established at airports in Islamabad, Faisalabad, Multan and Rahimyar Khan.
