HARIPUR:

A cop was arrested for attempting to rape a teenage girl with two accomplices near Khalabat Township, a police official told The Express Tribune on Monday.

Police quoted the girl as saying she was friends with Saeed, a constable of the anti-terrorism squad in Haripur. Sunday afternoon, he called her to meet at a house near Khalabat Township.

The girl in her complaint said Saeed had promised to marry her, which is why she went to see him. When she got there, Saeed, along with two of his friends identified as Raja Yasir and Naveed, raped her. However, according to the police report, the medical examination of the victim suggests it was a case of attempted rape, and not rape itself.

A case under sections 376, 34 and 511 of the Pakistan Penal Code has been registered against the accused. All the accused were arrested and produced before the court of judicial magistrate on Monday. They have been taken into custody.
