LAHORE:

The second day of the Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs’ Summit 2016 (YLES’16) featured a marketing competition titled Brand Rush.

As many as 126 teams of students from major schools and universities all over the country participated in the competition. Each team was assigned a brand and asked to present a marketing plan for it.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Umar Ahmed from the Lyceum School, Karachi, said that the event had been a great learning experience for him. He said it had also enabled him to meet students from across the country and to discuss marketing strategies with them. Ahmed said his team was asked to prepare a marketing plan for the Dominos Pizza. He said they had set up a stall to display various pizzas of the brand. “We have also designed customised uniforms for Dominos’ staff,” he said.

Students from the Government Elementary School Charrar Village, DHA Lahore, were also invited to participate in the competition. The school’s team was assigned Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Talking to the Tribune, the YLES organising team members said that the plans prepared by the teams would be judged by a panel including marketing executives from leading companies. They said the event had been started to provide a platform where students could share business ideas with one another. They said marketing and entrepreneurship were two areas of focus.

The four-day event had started on January 7. Around 1,000 participants divided in 126 teams, would next be participating in competitions like the Idea Junction, a start-up ideas competition; a Networking Night and the Social Sustainability Challenge.

The Sustainability Challenge will include a documentary making competition, a sustainable social business and corporate social responsibility. The Lahore University of Management Sciences Entrepreneurship Society (LES) will also launch its annual magazine this year.
