Economic progress: ‘CPEC should not be politicised’

K-P lawmaker stresses on political cohesion and successful execution

PESHAWAR: The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a lifeline project for Pakistan's development and politicising such a vital project would be tantamount to depriving people of progress and prosperity, said Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Member Provincial Assembly Rushad Khan on Friday.

"CPEC is a very sensitive issue which requires political cohesion for its successful execution," he said, adding that in the absence of these factors the investment may go to other states, resulting in economic regress.

"Criticism for the sake of criticism should be avoided and suggestions for improvement should be encouraged," he said.

He said enemies of the country did not want it to progress and wanted to make CPEC another controversial project like Kalabagh.

He termed the CPEC the backbone of the economy and the social development of the country. "It is not a one-road project, but a multi-sectoral framework covering energy, infrastructure and the industrial sector and we all have to make it successful so that people of all provinces, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir can also reap its benefits."

The MPA expressed hope that concerned quarters would remove all reservations of the opposition parties in K-P over the western route.

He said LNG and construction of industrial zones on western route would not only generate employment opportunities but alleviate poverty and bring less developed areas at par with the developed regions.
