Sarmad Khoosat bags Best Actor award for Manto at Indian film festival

The biopic also won the Best Sound and Best Editing awards

Sarmad Sultan Khoosat's directorial Manto has taken India by storm. The biopic based on the life of controversial writer Saadat Hasan Manto won big at the Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) 2016.

The director -- who also plays the lead role in the film -- bagged Best Actor Award in the Feature Film Category at the 8th edition of the festival. The biopic, boasting an ensemble cast, also managed to take home Best Sound and Editing Award in the same category.

Manto opened the festival on January 2. It was screened alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone starrer Piku -- which won Red Rose and Best Original Screenplay awards in the Feature Film category.

It was earlier reported that JIFF is dedicated to screenwriters and will showcase 152 films, including 35 feature films, 17 documentary feature films, 58 short films, 17 documentary short films and 15 short animation films.
